The Big Fix
A volunteer run initiative to enable people to repair, not replace.
On the 15th February 2020, 75 repair cafés around the country hosted simultaneous community events as part of the UK’s largest nationwide repair project: The Big Fix.
Following the success of last year’s Big Fix – where 40 volunteers from across Devon repaired 268 items in one day – the project is now going nationwide, with 1,000 UK-wide volunteers repairing household items for a small donation. the Big Fix 2020 believed to repair over 2,000 items, from clothing to toys, saving 60 tonnes of CO2.
Here in Oxford, SHARE (Oxfords very own Library of Things) organises free Repair Cafés every first Sunday of every other month between 14:00 – 17:00 at Makespace Oxford. Like the Big Fix, the Repair Cafe is an opportunity to sharpen those tools, fix electrical equipment, sew up clothes and restore jewellery.
During the COVID-19 outbreak the Library and Repair Cafe will be on pause. Check back in to their website or Facebook page to keep in the loop.
